Essentials

  • A
    • Adds - Additional mobs (non-boss mobs, usually used in instances)
    • AFAIK - As Far As I Know.
    • AFK - Away from Keyboard
    • Aggro - This means the monsters are mad at you and you've "activated" them to attack you. They are now in the motion of trying to reach and attack you.
    • Aggro Radius - The radius around the monsters where they will "wake up" and attack you.
    • AH - Auction House: The place where you can buy and sell items with other players.
    • AKA - Also Know As
    • Alt - A character on your account other than your main character or other than the character you're currently playing.
    • AOE - Area of effect, a skill that can affect multiple things in an area.
    • APS - Attacks Per Second, the Attack Rate stat in your Character window.
    • ASAP - As Soon As Possible.
    • Atk - Attack.
    • ATM - At The Moment.
    • Avatar - Your character. In the forums it means the picture that appears next to your posts by your name.
  • B
    • BBIAB- Be Back in a Bit
    • BBL- Be Back Later
    • BK - Back; something you say right after you come back from being AFK.
    • BOGO - Buy one, get one (free). Refers to various timed offers in the Boutique, where a player will receive an extra reward for purchasing a given item.
    • Boss - A named monster, much harder than anything else nearby that has better loot and is often the target of quests.
    • Boutique - The cash shop used to buy items for the game. Can be accessed by hitting the hotkey "J" in game.
    • BRB - Be Right Back
    • BRT - Be Right There.
    • BTW - By The Way.
    • Buff - A beneficial spell or effect on a monster or player.
  • C
    • C/O - Current Offer (usually used in World Chat Auctions)
    • CF - Camp Fire
    • CS - Cash Shop (cs'er; cash shopper)
    • Camping - The act of waiting in an area to hunt a specific thing that tends to appear there.
    • CD - Cooldown, the time between when you use a skill or potion and the time when you can use it again. The icons for skills and pots in cooldown show a darkened pie-wedge that gets smaller as the cooldown ends.
    • Char - Your character. If used in the form "10char" it means "10 characters", used to get past the old 10 character minimum for forum posts.
    • Crit - Critical hit, a hit which does your Rage Damage, normally 200% damage. It may also refer to your critical hit rate.
    • Critical Hit Rate - One of your stats that shows the percentage chance of making a "Critical Hit" or "crit" on a target for damage when a strike is implemented. A crit does your Rage Damage, normally 200% of your normal damage.
  • D
    • DC- Disconnect
    • DD - direct damage (damage in a single shot). This is a skill that does all of its damage in one hit rather than spreading its damage over time or the squad-role of using such attacks.
      • DDs - Damage dealers (referring to any class that does damage, interchangeable with DPS)
    • DO - Dragon Order (popular bounty quest)
    • DOT - Damage Over Time
    • DPS - damage per second (also referred to any class that does damage)
    • DPH - Damage Per Hit. The max damage a single hit will inflict.
    • Debuff or De-Buff - A negative spell cast on a unit that makes it less powerful.
    • Devs - The programmers and other developers of PW in China.
    • DMG - Damage.
    • DT - Dusk Town (also referred to as just 'Dusk')
  • E
    • E.g. - (latin) Exempli gratia; "for example"
    • Exo - Guild Exorcism event, can be completed once a week
  • F
    • F2P - Free to play, as opposed to a pay to play (P2P) game. PWI is F2P.  :-)
    • FF - Frostgale Fjord
    • FH - Full Health.
    • FM - Full Mana/Magic.
    • FTL - For The Loss or For The Lose, a sports or game term.
    • FTW - For The Win, a sports or game term.
    • FUBAR - Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition.
    • FW - Forsaken World.
    • FYI - For Your Information.
  • G
    • G2G/GTG- Got to go or Good to go
    • Game is Dead - A term used by some players to express dissatisfaction with the game that became a meme in the forums. (Usually not meant to be taken literally).
    • Gank - In PvP, to attack another player while they're trying to fight a monster. Or... when a party attacks a lone player, usually to PK (Player Kill) him.
    • GBQ - Guild Base Quest
    • GF - Usually "Good Fight", but may also mean "girlfriend".
    • GG - Good Game.
    • G.I.R.L. - Guy In Real Life, usually used when referring to a female character that is (probably) played by a male.
    • GJ - Good Job.
    • GM - Game Moderator, Game Master, or Guild Master, usually the first one in PWI.
    • Griefer - A person who purposely tries to annoy or anger other players.
    • Grinding - Staying in the same area fighting the same types of monsters for a very long time for the purposes of gaining EXP, SP, coins, and/or drops.
    • GT2 - God's Trial 2
    • Guild - Another name for faction.
    • GVG - Guild versus Guild, a PVP event that happens every Saturday. Aka Rift
  • H
    • HOT - Heal Over Time (healing over time).
    • HoTK - Heroes of Three Kingdoms, a different PWE game.
    • HP - Hit Points or Health.
    • HPS - Heals Per Second(healing per second).
    • Hybrid - A character build that is not focused entirely on one purpose but instead multiple purposes.
  • I
    • ICR - I Can't Remember/Recall.
    • IDC - I Don't Care.
    • IDK - I Don't Know.
    • IDM - I Don't Mind.
    • IDTS - I Don't Think So.
    • I.e. - (latin) id est; "that is" (in other words)
    • IIRC - If I Recall/Remember Correctly.
    • IJS - I'm Just Saying.
    • IMO or IMHO - In My (Honest/Humble) Opinion.
    • Inc - A short warning of "incoming" danger.
    • Instance - An "instance" is an area that only exists for players in your squad. This allows multiple squads to complete quests in a particular dungeon without interfering with each other.
    • Inv - Usually short for either "Invite" or "Inventory".
    • IRL - In Real Life.
  • J
    • JK or J/K - Just Kidding. Also short for "joke".
  • K
    • KS - Kill Steal.
  • L
    • LFG - Looking for Group/Guild
    • LFM - Looking for More (sometimes with specific number of needed people: LF1M, LF2M etc.)
    • LFP - Looking for Party
    • LOL - Laugh out loud
    • LVL - Level
  • M
    • MM - Marksman (refers to dwarfs)
    • MPK - mob-player kill, when the PKer attacks while his victim is fighting monsters - and stops to let the monster get finishing blow (especially in games where you lose experience if mobs kill you)
    • MS - Measurement of ping/Mercury Statuettes, depending on context
  • N
    • NPC - non-player character
    • NTY - no thank you
    • NL - ninja looter
  • O
    • OOM - Out of Mana
  • P
    • PC - Price Check, usually is accompanied by the word "on" and then the said item(s)
    • PK - player kill/player killer
    • PO - Phoenix Order (popular bounty quest)
    • Prot - Protector
    • PUG - Pick Up Group, finding random group for instances or questing
    • PVE - Player Versus Environment (NPCs)
    • PVP - Player Versus Player
  • Q
    • QQ - crying/quitting, especially due to a "rage quit"
  • R
    • ROFL - Rolling on floor laughing
  • S
    • SI - Self-invite (to a player's party)
    • SMH - Shake my head
  • T
    • Toon - Any player's in game character
    • TP - Teleport
    • Trash Mobs - all non-boss monsters in instances
    • TTYL - Talk to you later
